Sandy Beach Art.... Today in the News 5/2/2014:

Opening Statement:
I love catching everyone up on those who have been in the Sacramento area market and have moved to different stations, but what I love more is when I can report they are nominated for not 1 but 2 Emmy Awards. If you are a long time viewer of Good Day you might remember Producer Yalda. Producer Madelyn and Producer Megan. These 3 GREAT Producers all shared one thing in common. They all produced separate hours of Good Day both during the week and on the weekend show and they have all moved on to different adventures. I don't have much information on Madelyn but Megan is Producing in Colorado and Yalda moved to San Diego 6 and yesterday Yalda announced she was nominated to win 2 Media Emmy's for her Producing. I am so proud of Yalda. It was this picture Yalda posted via Facebook that made it all real and I hope that she wins the 2 Emmy's she is nominated for and so deserving to get. yalda opening

Ken's Manly Minute: Kentucky Derby Viewing Party Essentials
It’s only comes around once a year and it’s over in a flash. The Kentucky Derby is called the “fastest 2 minutes in sports” but there is a way to make it last a lot longer and make sure your soiree is top notch you will need a few things to get the party started. It’s super easy and loads of fun if you have these 5 things. A Huge TV, Roses, Games. Horses. Food and Drinks
Mint Julep Recipe
3-4 mint leaves (extra sprig for garnish)
3 tsp powdered sugar
2oz Bourbon (makers mark)
club soda
Place mint in the bottom of a Boston shaker, add the powdered sugar and a few drops of whiskey. Using a bar muddler, muddle the mixture into a paste. Fill with ice and the remaining bourbon. Shake vigorously and then strain over fresh ice in a mint julep cup. Top with club soda. Garnish with a large sprig of mint and enjoy!

All this and more in Today in the News....

Good Day Sacramento:
In today's Show and Tell Cody found a website where letters and notes are posted including one from a boy who needed a dog house from the man who built his house. Busy Frank told the boy to remind him later so he did and Frank sent the boy the plans for his dog house. Ken shared California Chrome's trainer could be the oldest to win derby. Marianne's Daily list talked about 3 things that should be replaced. Mark had News of the Weird. The 5am Club Members were introduced. Today's Question of the day What quality do you look for in a friend. Show us Yours is Frozen Video and during a recreation from Mark he fell through the studio door making this a funny moment

Let it Go, Let it Go Fancy Feet is making it Frozen fun with kids with a Frozen Frenzy and Julissa was checking it out. Melissa was hanging out with Magician Eric Buss who is performing tonight at Fill the Pantry to benefit Placer County Food Bank. Marianne had Your Daily Joe with a trick found in Disney / Pixar Movies A-113.

In this hour Mark and Ken learned to play rugby from Sacramento Lion's Club who will be playing tomorrow in Sacramento. Melissa was finishing up with Eric Buss with another trick or two. Amy was with Andres in San Francisco checking out his amazing Mural Art. THIS WAS AMAZING and yes Amy worked on a Friday. Julissa played dress up at Fancy Feet for Frozen Frenzy. Mark had a entertainment report about Frozen and then talked to Todd and Nina from Now 100.5. Ken gave a Kentucky Derby update on California Chrome.

In this hour Amy continued from SF for the amazing work by Andres on Ocean Beach. Lori was at a local OliveHurst School where they are honoring Military. One local Hilmar Elementary School is learning the history of Gold Rush Days by turning back the clock. Comedian Adam Ray was in studio before he takes the stage at Punchline tonight - Sunday. The 9amtopic was introduced. Today's Topic When is it appropriate to take a selfie.

Taking us through the hour and today's #9amtopic Laura, Julissa and Mark talked about when to take a selfie. Sean was at the American Cancer Society Jewelry event in Sacramento. Courtney was learning how to make desert from Chef Kayla of Evans Kitchen for Cinco De Mayo. Mark talked about the Owl song Jamie Foxx performed for Mark at the Movies that was shown on Access Hollywood. Melissa was at Mustard Seed School as they prepare for their 25th Birthday. Ken had his Derby party Manly Minute which then turned into how to make a Derby Cocktail from Berkley Bar.

Final Thoughts:
Fox40 was having some Satellite communication issues with Direct TV today so I don't have much for them. I don't think it was a Fox40 issue but I do think it was Direct TV having issues with trying to find a good signal today because it would scramble a lot but they did talk Kentucky Derby fashion and hats as well as showing the now viral video of the hamster eating a burrito.

Today's Good Day was all over the place and that is not a bad thing.

From Mark and Ken playing Rugby with the Sacramento Lions before they play Saturday to Melissa not only getting tricked but tricking the magian to Lori going to a local school honoring troops to Ken, Marianne, Mark and later Julissa and Laura going back in time as one local school did to learn about the Gold Rush days where not only did they learn about Gold and panning for gold but how to start a fire without a match.

Sean did a rare fun life shot but it was worth a GREAT Cause helping the Cancer Society with their jewelry event.

I normally like to save the best for last but the last story is so big I want to save it for last but perhaps my favorite story of the day today came from Amy. Amy was in San Francisco with a talented artist who takes the sand on the beach and creates a master piece until the tide comes in and washes it all away. Andres was so impressive I ran out of words to describe this awesome work he did and he did it in about 2 hours. Just beautiful. So happy to see Amy work on a Friday to bring this story to us.

Tomorrow is the BIGGEST Day is Horse Racing at the Kentucky Derby and Ken being the fan of the horses covered it like the saddle towel that California Chrome wears. Many experts pick California Chrome who part owned by a Yuba City couple and appeared on the show 2 weeks ago before they headed out to the derby but today Ken talked about the trainer who could be the oldest trainer to win the derby at age 77. Ken also talked about the derby in his Manly Minute with what you need for a Kentucky Derby Party and of course cocktails are a big part of them so Berkley Bar came in to the studio to help wrap up the Manly Minute with a classic Derby Cocktail.

We have now danced into the weekend so the controls are handed over to Cody, Amy and crew starting at 7am. I do know but cannot confirm the day Skipolini Pizza is coming up to make a cheeseburger pizza and this is not your typical cheeseburger pizza, If yo saw the cake from the other day, Yeah it's like that.

So on that I will see you at 7am Saturday for Good Day Weekend and DVR this week's Mark at the Movies for a special Spider-Man 2 Edition at 430am on CW31, 8am on ReelzChannel on Saturday 11pm on Sunday on CW31 all times PST.
