#HappyMemorialDay ... Today in the News 5/26/2014:

Opening Statement:
As we celebrate Memorial Day we remember and reflect on all those who have served and those that gave their ultimate sacrifice so that we can live free and enjoy each other and even though we take for granted our daily lives it's important to remember how we got here in our history. As we start to lose our World War II vets I am reminded that just the other day we lost yet another Tuskegee Airman. Their is not many of this special unit left and though movies of their part of history have been made Red Tales was a poor example of all they did for WWII.

Yesterday Cody said something that really had me thinking. With the pictures we have of our WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam we are going to soon lose those special looks with the age of digital. But because we have digital we need to use it to our advantage. Right now all we have is what is written in books but we are going to lose the stories, we are going to lose the memories of our vets but we can still get them. Sit down with your dad, brother, uncle, grandfather etc. and record their stories of what they saw, what they learned, Listen to the memories of their units they belonged to. Save them for family or donate the video to museums like the Forgotten Warriors Museum where they will live forever and preserve our GREAT history.  remembering

Good Day in a Nutshell

Good Day Sacramento:
Today started off a bit rough for me. When I woke up to OK TV and not Good Day at 430 that is NOT OK. At 5am the show did start and was seen on both CBS13 and CW31. Marianne and Julissa had the desk covered today with it being holiday. In this hour on Show and Tell Courtney previewed the Portable John for camping. Marianne talked about a Sign Chart that takes your sign and matches a cocktail to go with it. The 5am Club Member was introduced. Marianne had the Daily List talking about keywords in dating profiles men and women want to see. The Question of the day was What would you like to do over for your wedding and Marta answer may have shocked some CBS13 viewers but for Good Day viewers laughing all the way. Today's Show Us Yours was Hero in honor of Memorial Day.

In this hour as Good Day continue to broadcast on CBS13 Marianne had her Daily Joe that included a 3D Printer that makes pancake art. Ken was at Golden Gate Field talking about what the horses do while off the track to train. Julissa had a 2 for 1 App of the Week. The first Seat Geek you can find event tickets for cheap. The other House Account is for shopping.

In this hour we met Brett. Brett is the Turlock teen sensation who dances like Michael Jackson. He was showing Melissa his moves. Ken continued for 2 segments at Golden Gate Fields prior to Ken going to Belmont for the final leg of the Triple Crown on June 7 for California Chrome. Courtney had her Check This out with the Disposable John. If you got to go you got to go and when you do the liquid becomes a solid so no leakage.

Ken continued giving behind the scenes look at all that goes on at Golden Gate Fields. Melissa finished up with Brett as he performed live his Billie Jean. Cambi was at the Wounded Warriors run in Folsom. Marianne and Julissa talked to Tiffany from Kahootz Salon as they offer FREE Cancer treatment on Monday's. Court's Tunes was played. Julissa was with Raleys checking out Memorial Day recipes for the grill. The #9amtopic was introduced. With the video of the 5 year old wishing he was 4 again What age do you wish you could go back to?

In this hour Marianne and Julissa took us through the #9amtopic in addition to talking to Tiffany from Kahootz as they give back to cancer patients. Ken finished up at Golden Gate Fields. Melissa was in Turlock as their Memorial Day Services get underway. Cambi continued from Folsom Wounded Warrior 5K Run. Courtney was checking out the Vettes for Vets event taking place today in Sacramento at California Auto Museum .

Final Thoughts:
Today we got to enjoy Good Day Sacramento because our great heroes fought for our freedoms to enjoy such shows as Good Day Sacramento. Without these brave men and women who knows what might have been. So on this day as you spend time with friends and family please stop for a moment and give thanks to those who fought and fight for our freedoms especially those who paid the ultimate price defending our flag and country on this memorial day.

Today's show started off a bit rocky for me and other 430 viewers when no show was on. When is OK TV not okay? At 430am on a Monday when Good Day Sacramento is supposed to be on. After the show started at 5 the loyal CBS13 viewers got to taste Good Day as the show was simulcast on both networks. During that time they got the normal 5am items in addition to Julissa's App of the Week which was a 2 for 1. The first app was called Seat Geek to try and find cheap seats for big events. The 2nd app was for shopping called House Account.

They also got a taste of Ken going behind the scenes of Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley. Ken was there all morning checking out all things horse racing including how they train off the track, what kind of food they serve in the kitchen how and where the jockeys rest and get ready to take on the next race. This room is called the Silk Room. Ken even channeled his inner jockey by jumping on this horse. Ride like the wind Ken.  ken horse

Last week we saw the video of the Turlock teen Brett, dancing to Michael Jackson today Melissa learned his dance moves, tested his knowledge on Michael and he performed live on the show.

I would love to know how many viewers of CBS13 stayed with Good Day Sacramento at 7 today to join in on all the fun. Not only would they have seen the 5 & 6am hours but Cambi cover the Wounded Warriors 5K run, Kahootz Salon giving back to cancer patients and the 9am hour and topic plus Courtney driving muscle cars for Vettes for Vets.

The show today was very good with a lot covered but again none of it would be possible without our veterans and those fighting for our freedoms.

Happy Memorial Day and Thank you. You all live in our hearts and minds forever.
