Kids With Courage.....Today in the News 6/27/2014:

Opening Statement:
Last Night the Sacramento Kings looked to fill their shooting void by taking perhaps the best marksman available in the draft when they selected Michigan guard Nik Stauskas with the eighth overall pick. This marks the second straight season the Kings used a top 10 pick on a shooting guard. But Stauskas is a much more accomplished shooter than last year’s seventh pick Ben McLemore, who shot 38 percent from the field and 32 percent from long range as a rookie. The 6-foot-6 Stauskas became one of the nation’s most well-rounded offensive players, averaging 17.5 points last season on the way to winning Big Ten player of the year honors. Stauskas shot 44 percent from 3-point range in two years in college and improved his ball handling and defense considerably in his second season when he took over a big share of the playmaking role with departure of star point guard Trey Burke to the NBA.

I'm not going to lie. I am not educated enough to know much about him. I hear the "experts" and they like him as well as call him the BEST shooter in the draft. Per Nick Janes sources he will not be traded but I am thinking perhaps this opens the door for someone else on the roster to be traded but again I am not educated enough to know for sure. I will just say Welcome to Sacramento Kings #LetsGoWin

Today's Question of the Day was No matter what I'm still going to do what? Today's Show us yours was Incredible child for the event coming up later in the show. Mark was in San Francisco to talk about the new Planet of the Apes movie Dawn of the Apes so no News of the Weird other than his Skype kept freezing up so that was kind of weird. The Special Olympic Torch ceremony kicked off and Julissa was there.

6am:
In this hour the Sutter Children's Hospital Caring For Kids Telethon kicked off. Cody talked with one former patient who is now becoming a nurse. Mark showed more from last nights Red Carpet event for Dawn of the Apes. Marianne's Daily Joe talked more about the car flip photo couple.

7am:
Sutter Children's Hospital Caring for kids officially kicked off this hour. Cody continued to talk to phone volunteers, doctors, nurses, and of course patients including Jessica who had to have a heart surgery and is now doing GREAT!!!. Julissa was checking out the Capital Public Radio Used records sale taking place tonight - Sunday at Howe Bout Arden. 34 week pregnant and Alysia Montano ran 800 Meters at the Track and field event yesterday - WOW!! Kristin was in Modesto checking out a new boxing gym opening Saturday. Pat and Tom announced the Concert in the Park Performers taking place August 9th and Cal Expo

8am:
The Sutter Children's hospital Telethon is well underway with more amazing stories like Beads of Courage and the Music Therapy Program. Kristin "KO" Marshall knocked out her opponent at Modesto Boxing. Courtney had her Check This Out with a new lunch box that keeps your food separate. With the amazing story of Alysia Montano who ran the 800 pregnant today's #9amtopic was introduced with I will not let anything stop me from____

9am:
Today's Sutter Children's Hospital continued this hour and even more GREAT Stories. From Katherine who was only 1 pound at birth is now fully grown and doing great. Spencer with help from March of Dimes donated $400 of his own money. Carter being born with stomach issues and doing amazing. High School kids in Fairfield going through Nurse Camp learning how to deliver babies, Today's 9amtopic with Laura and Julissa and no Friday would be complete without Dance Party so the Bee Gees took us into the weekend so we are now ready for Cody, Amy and crew to take over.

Final Thoughts:
Special Olympics:
The Special Olympics kicked off this morning with a very special ceremony and Julissa was there as the flame was lit and then Mobile 13 followed the runners with the torch.

Check This Out:
Courtney was back with her Check This Out and today it came from Planet Box. This new lunch box keeps your food from touching each other and keeps it hot or cold .

Play That Music:
It's that time of year again. Capital Public Radio is having it's annual sale of old records, cassettes, VHS, 8mm Film and yes 8-Track Music too. The event kicks off tonight at 6pm with a preview and then all weekend long with sales.

Mama Said Knock You Out:
A New Boxing Gym is set to open in Modesto so today on Good Day Kristin was there checking it out where she got the nickname Kristin "KO" Marshall. She even knocked out her opponent.

Children:
For nearly 19 years Good Day Sacramento provides fun and excitement in their show. However when they need to be serious they are.

One of the best things about Good Day Sacramento is when they can have fun with a very serious topic and raise money for a cause.

Today Good Day Sacramento did just that. With Sutter Children's Center of Sacramento they reminded us all that a life of a child is precious and children can grow up to be something special.

Get the tissues ready. I'll wait....
From Lisa who needed a spine surgery to grow up a beautiful young lady who is now going to nursing school to Katherine who was born early and only weighed 1 pound at birth going from the Sutter NICU to nursery school.

Jessica who needed heart surgery and now looking and doing amazing. Baby Carter who had stomach issues at birth and now he is 1 year old. Spencer teaming up with March of Dimes to donate $400 of his own money to Sutter Children's Center because he was once a patient and wanted to give back.

New technology that with help from donations given in not only today's telethon on Good Day Sacramento but throughout the year help monitor kids while sleeping if their blood sugars get low. New laser brain surgery with lasers that allow you to be home in a day or two.

None of this treatment is possible without our help. 2 stories that caught my attention as well are the Beads Of Encouragement where the child gets beads added to the chain every time they have to face another ordeal. This was so heart wrenching. I was in tears.

Of course the story of Kathleen who with Taylor wrote a song and performed it for all of us on Good Day Sacramento back in March of 2013.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CBedJEr6aQ
Now today little Hayden showing off his hand drum skills through the Sutter Music Therapy Program.

Children can make us smile, laugh, cry and remember how important they are and today Good Day Sacramento. Sutter Children's Center and the work the doctors, nurses. Parents, staff, the kids and all of the great viewers who were able to donate reminded us all how important a life of a child is and their encouragement is.

Thank you Sutter, Good Day Sacramento and all of you for a GREAT GREAT Good Day Sacramento today.
