Don't Fear The Beard.... Today in the News 6/16/2014:

Opening Statement:
In case you missed it from Sunday's Edition:

The Box Office saw a new #1 and a #1 fall. 22 Jump Street With Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill JUMPED over all the competition to the #1 spot with an estimated $60,000,000 and How To Train Your Dragon 2 Puffed it's way to the #2 spot with $50,000,000. Coming in 3rd this week Maleficent and round out the top 5 was Edge of Tomorrow edging out The Fault in our Stars that saw the stars fall all the way to the 5th spot. I don't know if I have ever seen a drop like that since the World Cup players fall to the ground if the wind blows on them.

Box Office Winners:
1. 22 Jump Street $60,000,000
2. How to Train Your Dragon 2 $50,000,000
3. Maleficent $19,008,000
4. Edge of Tomorrow $16,175,000
5. The Fault in our Stars $15.725,000  matm 246 1

Ken's Manly Minute: 5 Things You Should Know
Women think we can read their minds. At least, when we try to read their minds, that’s what we think they’re thinking. Of course, we can’t actually read their minds, and if they could read our minds, they would know that already. Obviously. One thing we do know is that women wish we were more educated about them, mind-reading or no. It turns out that there may be as many as 257 things that women want us to know, according to the Facebook page 257 Things A Girl Wished A Guy Knew, which, God help us, has more than 114,000 likes. In response, we sent the list around to all our female friends and girlfriends, and here are the top 10 things they've come up with. If only we’d known where to look before our last girlfriend left us… (No, we’re not crying. Real men don’t cry. Just read the article, OK???) Don't try to impress. Don't be mean. Money is not important. Don't keep secrets. When it's official it's real

Recap:
Good Day Sacramento:
430/5am:
Leading off Kristin Marshall is BACK!!!! Ken went to Funderland for Fathers Day and his son Malcolm got him a yoyo. Ken doesn't know how to work it but Tina does and a mini talent show broke out in part two of Show and Tell. Marianne's Daily List talked about how to become organized. Today's Show us yours was beards, so Tina's question of the day was What celeb would you want to hang out with that has a beard. Hugh Jackman was popular. Today's 5am Club Member was introduced. Mark did not have News of the Weird.

6am:
In this hour Melissa was playing with fire at Design with Fire. Actually she was checking out others who were but she will be in the 7am hour. Marianne's Daily Joe talked about the girl who was kicked out of KFC for her facial scars. (Such a shame). Mark was at Downtown Plaza Macy's with our friend Aaron. Aaron is getting ready to head to New York for the Premier of Transformers 4.

7am:
In this hour Melissa was blowing glass at Design with Fire. Sean was at Home Depot getting draught tips. Nerds On Call was in studio showing Ken how to protect and fix your electronics in the event they get wet. Finally Mark who was with Aaron at Macy's revealed his cool Red Carpet suit for Transformers.

8am:
In this hour Sean continued getting more tips from Home Depot, This hour was about energy saving tips. Also Melissa was getting tips on watering your lawn during the drought. Mark was in Fair Oaks at Rubs and More. Cambi was learning how to properly care for your beard. Nerds On Call was back talking about kids and tablets. Teens Tunes was played. Today's #9amtopic was a fun one. What shows do you binge watch.

9am:
In this hour Amy and Julissa guided us through the hour and today's #9amtopic. Mark was at Rubs and More. Cambi was maintaining beards. Julissa had Trending Topics including one about a World Cup Ref who is making more money in his personal life than the players are. Ken's Manly Minute 5 things you ought to know. Tina's Final Question was What part of a guys face do you notice first.

Final Thoughts:
YoYo:
Ken shared his son Malcolm gave him a YoYo for Fathers Day but Ken doesn't know how to use it so today in Show and Tell Tina showed the tricks she knows. Then is part 2 of Show and Tell Mark joined in with a juggling act.

Playing With Fire:
Melissa was having fun today at Fire By Designs. She learned how to make glass necklaces, and how to blow glass. This was a very "HOT" Topic because she got to play with fire.

Dress For Success:
Earlier this month our friend Aaron found out on his last day of school he would be going to the New York Premier of Transformers 4 and would be on the Red Carpet. So today along with his mom Aaron and Mark headed to Macy's to pick out his new suit for the event. Aaron picked out a very cool white hat to go with his suit.

Nerds:
Today Nerds On Call was in studio for 2 segments. The first was tips on how to dry out your electronics if they get wet. The second segment was how tablets and kids get along. With so many apps for kids they can help them learn.

Summer Saving Tips:
Today Sean and Melissa both had segments on how to save in the summer. Melissa was learning best ways to water your lawns in the summer with the drought conditions. Sean was at Home Depot looking at plants, and sprinkler systems that conserve water as well as energy saving tips.

Remembering Tony:
Last week is was Pitcher Bob Welch who is the last 25 game winner. Today we lost Tony Gwynn. Tony was a batting champ and a class act in the game. both players were 54 at the time of death. Tony was lost to cancer. Here is one interesting fact. in 20 years Tony struck out 3 time in one game once in his career. The pitcher with those strike outs.... Bob Welch.

Rubs and More:
Today Mark was at Rubs and More. This Fair Oaks store sells more than just Rubs for your BBQ but they sell the BBQ to go with it. They also sell rubs you can add to pretzels and salads for taste.

Good Day Nutshell:
Don't Fear The Beard:
As hockey goes on throughout the season it's been a tradition for players to grow beards especially when it comes to playoff hockey. Basketball and baseball have picked up in this trend recently as well plus a lot of men have beards. Floor Crew/Cameraman Julian had a very full one until he shaved it off a week or so ago. So how do you clean it, make it look clean shaven? Cambi headed to Folsom to find out today on Good Day Sacramento from Roosters Men's Grooming Center.

Recipe:
Local chefs are teaming up to make one recipe. Tina was with them today and the recipe is listed above.

Trending Topics:
One of my favorite segments on Good Day Sacramento is Trending Topics with Julissa. Today 2 of the 3 topics talked about stuck out in my mind. The first, Facts you may not know about Trader Joes. The other with the World Cup one referee makes more money with his business than the players make playing the soccer game. That's crazy.

Manly Minute:
Today's Manly Minute on Good Day Sacramento with Ken talked about 5 things you ought to know. Don't try to impress a woman by doing stupid things like speeding. Impress her by being yourself. Don't be mean to her. It's okay to joke just know when to not take it too far. Don't pull her hair. You are no longer on the playground, and don't buy her with money. What? If you have no money she's going to find someone who does. This is the only one I disagreed with. Money is everything.

Daily Joe:
Today on Marianne's Daily Joe she told of a little girl who was attacked by dogs and suffered severe facial injuries. On the day she was released from the hospital she wanted Mash Potatoes from KFC. One employee asked them to leave because she was scarring the customers. I am heartbroken at this story. She should never have been treated like this and deserves all she got and more from KFC. The employee was also dealt with accordingly.

Kristin:
SHE'S BACK! Kristin Marshall who has been gone since December to give birth to her daughter returned today. She picked up right where she left off.  kristin red

With Courtney out all this week Tina is already back so as of this writing I don't know what's ahead for the show tomorrow so tune in with me at 430-10am to find out.
