Make a Difference.... Today in the News  3/11/2014

Opening Statement:
To kick things off today if you read the Final Travel Blog the video wasn't uploading so I had to fix it. Here is the Opening to the West Coaster Toy Show http://youtu.be/pKtEqH8sdb8

I've been thinking about trying to help inspiring artists. I would like to create a special feature once a week where I spotlight a local artist and their work. It could be anything from a drawer, painter, photographer, singer, dancer etc. This area is full of stars waiting to be found and if I can play a small role in launching someone's career I'm all for it. Plus with some of my connections you could go as far as your talent takes you. If interested contact me from info below so I can reach out to you pictures are always welcome. art 4

Fox40:
Viewers Voice: For the 3rd year in a row the loss for minting pennies and nickels has topped $100 Million. That's right, it costs more to mint the coins than the coins are actually worth. Canada faced a similar dilemma a few years back... their nickel is now 95% steel, and costs less to mint. Plus, they got rid of the penny altogether last year. Our Viewers Voice question: Should the U.S. use cheaper metals in minting coins, or do away with pennies and nickels?

Quick Thought:
In a nice surprise this morning, Lori Wallace was covering the weather on Good Day today.
My58 was Good enough to cover today
Fox40 made Guinness Cupcakes
All that and more in Today in the News....

Recap:

My58:
Today on My58 they talked about the Golden Gate Park being one of the most visited National Parks. I loved when I've gone there .They also talked about the Salmon may have to be moved up river. DMV is trying to figure out how to manage Driverless cars and kids try to balance social media and life.

Fox40:
Raley's was in the Fox40 Kitchen with Guinness Cupcakes. Who doesn't love alcohol in their cupcake well other than me. Joey Garcia, relationship expert was talking about dogs dating. Zohreen was hanging with Cal Fire as they prepare for a HORRIBLE Fire Season, despite the recent rain we are still in a drought. Today the Fox crew checked out 925 Boutique in Roseville, This was featured a couple of months ago before they opened so it is nice to see them still going strong.

Good Day Sacramento:
430/5am:
This hour Courtney talked about the importance of Box Tops, Ken read to his former Elementary school and Marianne revisited a Weird or Worth it in today's edition of Show and Tell. Also in this hour Marianne had her Daily List talking about salt in foods. Courtney introduced us to the 5am Club Member, Tina had Question of the day which was Your getaway city? Mark is off so News of the Weird was not shown. Show us your topic today is earrings.

6am:
In this hour Marianne had her Daily Joe that featured one little boy not happy about no cupcakes. Joni Hilton was back to share some ideas for St. Patricks day.

7am:
In this hour Ken was very busy covering 3 segments. First talking to Cnet's Brian Cooley about Roku vs. Google. Then getting tips for Tulips from Joni Hilton. I thought the candy tulip bowl was pretty cool. Ken was also talking to the owner of Krave Jerky about Jerky and beverages that go together. Julissa talked to one local dad who has a Kickstarter campaign for Earring Guards.

8am:
As usual the 8am hour gets the busiest of the day. Ken continued paring more jerky with alcohol. Cambi was in Woodland with one local teacher shaving her head for Charity. This marks at least the 3rd event in less than a week St. Baldricks has been a part of and I love each and every story that goes with it. Lori was checking out an event for Soldiers in West Sacramento. Move America Forward was boxing up treats for our BRAVE men and woman. Teen's tunes was played today. Courtney was with our favorite Pawn Shop Insider checking out classic rock posters from many big acts that performed in San Francisco. The 9amtopic today was yet another HOT Button Topic... Should the word Bossy be banned and is it a bad word?

9am:
Our guides for this hour were Ken and Julissa talking about the #9amtopic and getting a cake delivered from Move America Forward celebrating 10 years in service. Lori continued from there location as they continued to pack and ready to ship the care packages. Courtney was at the Pawn shop checking out classic rock poster from the Fillmore and other venues. Tina was from Block Butcher Bar a new restaurant in Downtown next to LowBrau with the same chef. Ken's Manly Minute was for Single Moms who are looking to date but should stay away from "Those Guys". Tina's final question of the was What's your favorite meat or meat substitute.

Final Thoughts:
LATE BREAKING NEWS!!!! Mark S. Allen had some screws removed from his neck area and a skin cancer. Please wish Mark Well wishes for a speedy recovery. mark

Before getting to the shows today one of the BEST things about doing this blog is feedback. As much as I love the positive I know negative feedback is important as well. So I want to hear from you. What do you like, dislike, and want to see more or less of. Please let me know your thoughts.

Onto the shows today.
My58 did a better job than yesterday with useable content so I was happy to see that.

Fox talking about Cal Fire was a GREAT I opener to this recent rain denting the draught but nowhere near the end of it. It's important to clear your home of dry brush but be smart about it because 1 spark could cause a ton of damage including loss of life and home.

Good Day Sacramento today was also better today than yesterday in my opinion. I wasn't sure about the earring portion of the show but like always Good Day Sacramento and viewers sold it and made it enjoyable. I love seeing different styles out there.

The one thing noticeably missing was Amy. I hope all is okay with her however if you had to bring a replacement Lori was the PERFECT choice.
