Bullying SUCKS! Today in the News 3/18/2014: Please Share?

Opening Statement:
To start today off Nina from Now 100.5 and Good Day Sacramento launched her own Website last night. Be sure to check it out and add it to your favorites. http://www.ninaonair.com/

I need to talk about one of the biggest news stories of the day from Monday. No, it's not St. Patrick's Day but it is about NFL Owner Indianapolis Colts Jim Irsay. Jim was arrested late Sunday night Monday Morning for DWI and a controlled Substance said to be pain killers that did not belong to him. Really Jim? You own an NFL team. You first have NO reason to drive under the influence you hold your players to a high standard well they do the same with you. You would not be happy if Andrew Luck acted like you. I hope the NFL does the right thing and comes down hard on him and sets a standard that not only players have to live by but ALL including owners.

One other thing I wanted to bring up is for the My58 viewers. Lisa G will be off mornings for a couple of months. Don't worry you can still see Lisa Weeknights at 5, 6, 10, 11 as she fills in for Kelly and Edie who just had or her baby over the weekend. Kelly has about a week or so to go before she does..

What else is taking place in the news..

Fox40 says new product from Ace Hardware and Sizzler has March Madness
Good Day Played What the Heck is that and pressed the HOT Button for the #9amtopic

All this and more in Today in the News....

Recap

My58:
My58 did talk about a couple things including replacing the I Street bridge but the News helicopter crash in Seattle most of the 8am hour. Such a sad story that I will have much more on in Final Thoughts.

Fox40:
Fox40 also covered the crash in Seattle and a couple of other news stories. Today it felt much more newsy than other days. They did talk about Sizzler having March Madness and new products at Ace Hardware.

The 5am Club member was introduced and Question of the day was asked What is the first thing you drink in the morning. Marianne had her don't be cheap theme Daily List and Show us your topic of Drums was introduced. So far Ken is the only one showing video however it was of a 9 year old kid who was amazing.

6am:
In this hour Julissa showed a new shower curtain that allows you to play music from your Iphone or Android while in the shower. Marianne had a follow up to the Whaling video from yesterday from a viewer who tried it in today's Daily Joe. Ken talked with one of the Lost Boy's of Sudan who gave him a drum lesson from his culture. Amy previewed Girls on the Grid with some of the most eligible Bachelors and Bachelorettes..

7am:
In this hour of the show Amy told the worst kept secret that Cambi was the nomination from the Good Day Staff for Girls on the Grid. She also showed the contestants from the Mix Downtown what they have to offer including one gentleman who has 3D tattoos. Ken talked to Sharon from Cnet who talked about Cell Phone Minutes may be going away. Courtney showed off the new spring collection of TOMS Shoes.

8am:
Hard to get back into this hour after the BREAKING NEWS at the top of the hour with a news helicopter crashing into cars in Seattle and losing the life of at least 2. Good Day did what they do best. They made us laugh with Courtney and crew playing What the Heck is that - Hardware Edition. Marianne and Julissa talked with the principle from Walnut Elementary after his school won $10k. Cambi got water conserving tips. Teens tunes was played. Marianne and Julissa talked to Rebecca Black about Wedding Etiquette. Finally the #9amtopic will be a HOT Button with a North Carolina boy being bullied for his backpack.

9am:
In this hour the #9amtopic was a sure HOT BUTTON. This topic raised 367 comments before 10am. In addition the the topic of the hour Courtney played 2 more rounds of What the Heck is that. Cambi shared tips to save water by checking your household items for water leaks and Tina talked about Film Food Fest with Ten22. Tina also asked What did you get picked on for in her final question of the day. 2 stories that did not make air today because of the BREAKING news was

Final Thoughts:
While I usually talk about the 3 shows here today I'm going to talk about three big stories.
The first being verdict in the death of a father and son from a few years ago (2007) just came down and the suspects were found guilty on 4 counts including Special Circumstances.

The other story was story of the helicopter crash in Seattle that killed 2 on board and injuring at least 1 on the ground. I can't speak for all locations but here in Sacramento we at one time had 2 choppers for News. We now have one at KCRA3. I don't know who the pilot is since longtime pilot Dann Shively flew his last flight a few years ago before heading into retirement but I see Chopper 3 all the time flying around. I'm sadden today for the loss the families have today knowing they lost a brother, sister, mother, and/or father. I'm also sadden for the fraternity that is the media for losing one of their own.  I know at Good Day Sacramento and CBS13 that they have at least 3 that worked in the Seattle area and may have met these 2 individuals lost today so to Marianne, Maria, and Nina my heart goes out to you as well and to all that worked at KOMOTV & KINGTV in Seattle. Finally to the 3rd victim may your injuries recover quickly.

The 3rd and final topic today is about the Good Day Sacramento #9amtopic. This topic was HOT. With almost 400 comments on Facebook and dozens more on twitter we once again are reminded that BULLYING SUCKS! Just because one boy wants to take his My Little Pony backpack to school gives no one the right to pick on and say and do hurtful things. It doesn't matter if you are black, white, Asian, Hispanic skinny, heavy, WE AS ADULTS MUST STOP BULLYING NOW! That includes us too. We don't need to threaten sports figures for not scoring a TD, winning or losing our fantasy team playoffs. We don't need to threaten teachers for your child not passing. Teaching starts at home. We don't need to attack via social media our media people who are reporting stories or show up at their houses because you don't like them. I'd you don't like it change it. STOP BULLYING NOW! On Saturday on Good Day Sacramento we met the author who wrote a book about him being bullied called Fart Tart Freddy. We heard the story of Mike "On the Mic" Osborn from the Sacramento River Cats who was bullied. KHTK and the Kings are teaming up to raise awareness on April 6th for Stand Up and Speak Out Night. I'm writing a book about me being bullied not only by kids but a teacher who locked me in a closet with the bully. WE NEED TO STOP THIS before we lose anymore kids who can't take it and don't have parents. Friends and teachers to stop it.
Below is a national website on bulling read this make yourself aware and STOP THE BULLY BECAUSE BULLYING SUCKS!!!
