Wet Weather....Today in the News 2/28/2014:

Opening Statement:
Before we get to the day ahead in Today in the News please allow me to flash back to 11 years ago on this day. This day holds and will always hold special meaning to me because my life changed on 2/28/03. At the time I was working in the Foster Care system. On this day I had an hour to kill before my next appointment and thought I felt thirsty. So I drove to quench my thirst but it was the Surprise I got that would change my life forever. This is the day I met my Best Friend. I swore she was an Angel but not just any Angel, No, she was a Princess too. When we introduced ourselves to each other my first words out were "Are you Asian" She is and was thank goodness or I would have been extremely embarrassed, but it was those 3 words that would help change my life forever thus starting an amazing 11 years of friendship with one of the BEST friends a person could ask for.  (2003)Christy 2003

Viewers Voice: A bay area high school was within its rights to tell students wearing American Flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo to take them off or turn them inside out. An appeals court ruled school officials did not violate the constitutional rights of the students wearing the T-shirts. According to court documents, the incident occurred amid "ongoing racial tension and gang violence." Our Viewers Voice question: Should schools be allowed to limit Freedom of Speech in the name of student safety?

Quick Thought:
Wine, Jobs, and Storm rule the day on My58
Fox40 talks Wedding, Wine, storm, and Mardi Gras event.
Good Day Sacramento blankets storm, sends out the tooth fairy, Goes to Ikea and talks toys

All this and more in Today in the News....

Recap:

My58:
My58 covered the storm like the other 2 stations did today however they included best foods coming out of the Zinfindel country as well as Identity theft tips and if you are looking for work My58/KCRA is hiring.

Fox40:
Today on Fox Eric Harryman read for Reading Across America, Sabrina talked about Mardi Gras and Cajun Food event as well as a Wedding Event. Sabrina also talked about products made from cows that just totally turned my stomach watching. They had Idol Recap as well as complete storm coverage and Andis Wines in studio.

Good Day Sacramento:
430/5am:
Rain, Snow, Rain... The theme for this hour is nothing but wet weather. It is raining so hard in area's that Lori Wallace can't make it to her favorite coffee shop right down the road. Due to weather Show and Tell, Question of the day cancelled. Mark did have News of the Weird with a Monkey taking a camera, Marianne had fun facts about the Oscar Awards in her Daily List and the 5am Club Member was introduced.

6am:
In this hour the storm continues and so do the live reports from Sacramento, Stockton, Elk Grove and Donner Summit. Marianne had your Daily Joe where she showed Jeff Gordon taking a cab for a drive and Mark gave his first Oscar prediction for Best Animation - Frozen.

7am:
In this hour Mark continued with his Oscar predictions and at the same time meeting a local family heading to the award show after winning a contest. Courtney was talking fish because Star Eco is closing their doors Saturday and EVERYTHING must go and fish are FREE!!! Courtney was also talking new toys with Troy at G. Willikers

8am:
In this hour Marianne and Ken did back to back segments first with Cathy Kurtz about her Book Launch Event Saturday, March 1, 2014 4pm-6:30pm "Living Through Pain". Then they went to a shopping preview in Stockton at Twice as Nice Rummage Sale. Mark continued with his Oscar Predictions. Cody was acting as a representative of the Tooth Fairy as one local Elk Grove School celebrates National Tooth Fairy Day. Cody was from the Southern Chapter. Mallary Hope took the Good Day Stage prior to her opening for Clint Black tonight and tomorrow in Folsom, her voice was beautiful. Marianne previewed Life 4 a Child Event coming up next month (March). The 9amtopic was introduced.. I wish I had instructions for___

9am:
Ken and Laura are today's guides for the 9am hour walking us through the #9amtopic. Also in this hour Mark went to Ikea as they celebrate 8 years in West Sacramento. Cody was telling students whats bad for your teeth... Cody, Zoey is bad too? Oh well. Mark also made his final predictions for Oscar night and has to get 6 of 8 correct or he has debt to pay. I liked Cody's and Courtney's suggestions the best of the 3. Ken finished up his look at Black History for his Friday edition of Black History Month - Manly Minute. Laura and Ken looked at more GREAT prizes 4 the life of a child event and Mallary Hope performed one last song. Much like the day started with no question of the day it ended the same way with no question but we did officially dance into the weekend with Demi Lovato.

Final Thoughts:
The rain may have dampened the ground but not today's shows well expect the reporters who had to brave the conditions. All of which did a great job and for the ladies Melissa, Lori, Alisa, Mae your hair looked great. Bad hair day or not  each of you handled with professionalism including Sean who braved the snow fall in the Summit.

I can't do the My58 employment for several reasons nor would I even if I could but if you always wanted to be on TV try it out, you never know where it might take you.

Fox you almost lost me with the cow story today. I can handle a lot but if you never showed the live cow it might have been better. I can even handle seeing #Halfcow Coming to Under the Doom season 2 on CBS but today was not the day for that. Otherwise you did great today.

Good Day Sacramento I love Oscar predictions from Mark S. Allen I really think he has 6 of 8 correct but Best Actor and Picture could be his 2 misses. (For a complete list of picks see at end of Final Thoughts.)
Loved Cody as the tooth. The one child who got $10 had our friend Cody sweating a little bit. I got dimes, nickels or quarters and that's the way we liked it.

One final thought on today's opening. Christy My Love, An Angel Princess, That Flies Without Wings you will always be just that. Thank you for a GREAT 11 years... Let's do it again.

We have now danced into the weekend for Cody and Amy to take us through the weekend of fun filled entertainment including the Oscars and Mark's picks.

Best Supporting Actor - Jared Leto
Best Supporting Actress- Lupita Nyong'o
