Swimming With Melissa.... Today in the News 7/21/2014:
Opening Statement:
From The Weekend:
#IceBucketChallenge:
Lori was given a challenge to take the Ice Bucket Challenge and then donate $10 to a charity, or not take the challenge at donate $100 for a charity. Yesterday on Good Day leading off with Hunter from Now 100.5 Nina offered up the challenge to him and he took it. Nina got to dump ice water in a bucket of ice on his head now he gets to challenge someone.
Cambi challenged her mom Jebi (Awesome name by the way) and she did.
Kevin and Kat both from Good Day also took the challenge but it was at 9:58am where Lori, Amy, and Cody all took the challenge together. Each of them will donate at least $10 to Lori's Friend Brandy Overby and her husband Ryan. Brandy has the cancer and has started a YouTube Page as well as other pages. If you want to offer the challenge to your friends, family and / or co workers remember it is only $10 you need to donate and it's going to a GREAT young woman who does not deserve this nor does anyone with cancer. This was truly my Favorite Story of the Day and of the weekend #BrandysBattle

The Box Office number projections are out and it is not good for Disney’s Planes Fire and Rescue. Coming in first for the second week in a row Dawn of the Planet of the Apes with an estimated $36,000,000 followed by The Purge Anarchy with $28,369,000 in #2 and a very disappointing opening for Planes Fire and Rescue with $18,000,000 in third. Rounding out the Top 5 Sex Tape wasn’t sexy enough at 4 with $15,000,000 and Transformers with $10,000,000 falls to 5.
I am wondering if people did not go see Planes Fire and Rescue because of the disappointment the First Planes movie was. Let’s see what happens next week with Apes when Hercules hits theaters starring Dwayne Johnson.

Ken's Manly Minute: 5 Signs He Can Beat You Up
The signs you’re about to get the s**t kicked out of you are sometimes a bit blurry after a few drinks and a dude hitting on your girlfriend in a dark bar. And while we’re not entirely against throwing a good punch when necessary, there’s something to be said for restraint — especially when you mistake the Hulk for an average-size dude. We’re here to clear up the distinction for you between a regular dude at the bar and a guy with some real fighting experience. Here are 5 signs he can beat you up. Nickname is Biceps. He has Cauliflower ear. Broken Nose - Doesn't care how it heals. He's Missing teeth. He has crazy eyes.

Final Recap:
Favorite Story of the Day: #BrandysBattle
Though this story was not covered today but was yesterday it remains my favorite story of the day today.
Yesterday on Good Day Sacramento we saw the #IceBucketChallenge for charity. I would like one of my readers to do something for me please I would like you to formally challenge the following anchors to the Ice Bucket Challenge for proceeds to benefit #BrandysBattle. Cody has already taken the challenge so I think Good Day Sacramento has it covered so I would like Fox40 Paul Robbins, KCRA Teo Torres, and News10 Walt Gray to take the Ice Bucket Challenge and meet or beat the $10 donation. However if they choose not to take the bucket then the donation goes up to $100.
I have never met Brandy or her Husband but I have met plenty of people with cancer including my stepfather who I lost a week before my 19th birthday.
I know I am just one small voice trying to make a difference but if I can help save one person from this horrible disease I'm going to do it.
I want to help raise as much money and awareness as I can so if you know Brandy then let her know I stand with her in this fight. If you know anyone with cancer tell them they are not alone.
Yes I have a tumor but it's not cancer so I can and cannot relate to the days, the pain, the trials in which they go through on a daily basis but I can relate to the emotions they may be feeling.
Help me spread the word. Chronicle your challenge on video and post to Facebook Twitter Instagram. Send to me via one of my ways to reach me and let's raise money and awareness to #BrandysBattle.
Send videos of your challenge and money to Brandy Overby

Show and Tell:
Today's Show and Tell Ken took his family to the State Fair for the first time in years and they had a GREAT time. Malcolm even had his first Corndog. Tina brought tomatoes in from her garden and Julissa road in the car with Jason "Toots" Maloney to a wedding for former producers Brian Jeffcoat and Darcy Moore. Julissa and Jason talked about everything, Jason was a complete gentleman, dressed very nice and cleaned his truck.
Allentown:
Mark was back from his week off and today he took to the streets of Zamora, CA for Allentown. Where is that? Near Woodland, CA they have a population of a handful of people but some of the best sub sandwiches off I-5, A very cute little church, A little Post Office and a FREE Flower Garden where you can go and pick flowers. The only thing they ask is that you pick them for a good cause, like the family that was there today who pick them and bring them to the neighbors to lift up their days.
Melissa Swims:
Today Melissa relived her childhood, well sort of. She spent some time with the Galt Gators Swim Team. Melissa was right in her element until she got in the pool then it wasn't as easy for her as it once was but she still did it and looked good doing it.
At the carwash:
Yes, we are in a drought and you are advised to NOT watch your car unless you take it to a carwash like Prime Shine in Modesto. Today on Good Day Cambi talked with them and how they save water while washing your car. Check their website for several locations and the closes one to you.
Gin and Juice:
As you know Snoop Dogg loves his Gin and Juice. Now you can get it from the first ever Gold River Distillery making their own Gin. Wheelhouse Gin is available in select stores and served at Hock Farm in Sacramento. This is the first Distillery in the area like this in 100 years.
Wings:
The Sactown Wing fest is coming so today on Good Day Jason headed to Blue Cue to investigate the hot, juicy chicken wings. Jason even took part in the Wing eating challenge and came in 2nd out of 3 competitors.
FOUR!!!:
Today Melissa was with First Tee of Greater Sacramento. This is a cool group. They not only teach kids how to golf but they also teach them about life through the game of golf.
I'm not a golfer and never will be but I thought this was a very cool idea how they do and what they do.
Good Day Nutshell:
Daily List:
Today's Daily List talked about how to glam up your camping trip like wine, cheese, crackers. Bring nice Linens for a nice table cloth. Add mood lighting because Camp Fires may be banned this time of year especially with the drought or pay a fine of $700 or more.
Weird:
Mark was back and so was News of the Weird. Today Mark talked about a woman arrested for posting a picture of her favorite dress you know the one she stole from the store. Plus an Alabama man uses a Baby Monitor to stop a thief at his business.
Manly Minute:
In today's Manly Minute Ken gave 5 signs "that guy" can beat you up.
Tonight/Tomorrow:
Coming up tonight Under The Dome Live Tweeting at 9pm on CBS13. Join myself, ( @dcap22803 ) @tvcody (May not make it this week or will be late/Dinner plans with an old friend) and more. Remember to use #Halfcow when talking about the show.
Tomorrow Melissa is scheduled to run her story on Henry the Bear that was going to air on Thursday but couldn't due to BREAKING News. So tune in starting at 430am and see what takes place and meet Henry the Bear from the Folsom Zoo.
