It's Not Easy.... Today in the News 7/17/2014:

Opening Statement:
Today's Opening Statement was written before the BREAKING NEWS!! For a Special Final Thought see Below where I talk about my thoughts on today's BREAKING Story.

Courage. What is it? Where does it come from? How do we get it?

The meaning of Courage is defined by the ability and willingness to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. Physical courage is courage in the face of physical pain

Each of has had to face pain, danger, uncertainty or intimidation. So how do we beat it?

Last night ESPN honored one of their own during their ESPY telecast and if you didn't see the speech Stuart Scott gave about how he is finding the courage to beat cancer here is a portion and I promise you your eyes will not be dry in the end. http://youtu.be/FgQ2XMKBuys Stuart will eventually lose his battle to cancer but it will not be because he gave up or because he didn't have the support of loved one of family and friends because he has courage and he found courage in them much like I have found courage in my battle.

I don't have the platform like Stuart Scott does but I do have support, the will, and the fact that I know my work is not done. Yes I have pains, I have blurred vision and I am losing feeling in my hands and legs more and more but like Jimmy V said on the very first Espy Award Show "Don't Give Up, Don't Ever Give Up" I am here to tell you and especially my close family and friends Christy Cody Mark Tina Tessa Courtney Rachel Ken Marianne Kristin Cambi Don Anna Big Al Brian Mike Jenn Amy Lori Julissa Laura Melissa Sean Heather Nina Ashley Eric Eleanor Julian Janet Angie Ruben Julie, Arianna, everyone at Good Day Sacramento, Mark at the Movies, Now 100.5 fm. Stefanie Cruz Stevie Johnson and my Buffalo Bills Family/friends Beth and so many others not named I PROMISE you my tumor cannot and will not take my courage to keep fighting and to always be here for you and for me each and everyday I love all of you, because all of you are Family. Like Stuart Scott and Jim Kelly have said a Hug goes a long way and I need one.

Now here is my new favorite commercial from Good Day as Cody Stark plays the role as Flash Plus what is taking place Today in the News....

Ken's Manly Minute: The Family Road Trip
The summer of 1997 had to be the quintessential road trip for the Parker family. We spent two weeks on the road traveling from Utah to Missouri, Illinois, Iowa and back with five children and two adults in a minivan. Despite how ominous it sounds, it was the source of many favorite family memories. So how did we do it, and how do families today have a truly great summer family road trip? Based on now 22 years as a father with a summer road trip of varying durations almost every year, here are some tips that we found essential to road trip success. Let the kids help. Briig Comfort items. Check the car. Plan for pit stops. Share driving.

Final Thought Special:
SPECIAL REPORT:
With the events from today's horrific events and the apparent attack on private citizens in a war of territory I am heartbroken.

With so many events that tug your heart strings it's hard to always find the right words to express how you feel. I know for me I am shaken, heart broken and angered by not only today's events but yesterday's in Stockton.

What happened to human kindness. Why are people so on edge and really don't care who or what they hurt in the process.

As John Lennon sings Imagine if... I ask you Imagine if we had no wars, imagine if we had no hate? Imagine all the people living life today together as one and not as individual or to bring someone down with them. Over the last 24 hours we lost an innocent mother, wife, daughter and sister because 3 A-Holes wanted to rob a bank and try and run from police. Now today a flight carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew apparently shot down when it did no harm to anyone.. A case of mistaken identity or an act of terror. Either way both events are senseless and those responsible need to pay dearly for their actions.

Today's downed plane could start another war. I sure as hell hope it doesn't but someone or some group needs to face the consequence for their actions just like the lone survivor in the Stockton event yesterday. A poor daughter lost her mother because of stupidity.

We the people NEED TO STOP ALL THE VIOLENCE NOW!!!

I pray for all the families, friends and loved ones who have suffered great loss in these 2 events and while my <3 breaks know that I wish for all of you to mend from your broken hearts as I as well as millions of others stand with you as one heart and one mind.

Favorite Story of the Day: Kristin Tries out
Today Kristin went behind the scenes of what it takes and what you need to bring for tryouts to become a Kings Dancer. Kristin even got her dance on a little bit making this My Favorite Story of the Day.

Weird Al:
Weird Al released Day 3 of 8 Videos in 8 days today and today's video is a take on Lorde's Royales called Foil. Please enjoy it and tune in tomorrow for Day 4.

Pat Parachutes:
This story is hard to describe not because of the story itself but because this story was pretty close to the BREAKING Story that is currently unfolding at the time of writing. We celebrated Pat from Pat and Tom landing and no sooner we are sadden by the loss of 295 lives. But Pat can now cross Skydiving off his bucket list and he did it live on the show.

Mel Goes to Sing Camp:
Melissa was in Granite Bay at Sings Inc. While there she learned what kids go through at Summer Camp and heard a performance from Paradise The all girl group that appeared on X Factor.

Horror Story:
Starting tomorrow you can attend a Horror Movie camp. Today on Good Day Courtney did just that. Had this been a night time assignment Courtney would not have been anywhere near here. But because it was during the day and nothing was happening she had her popcorn ready and made for a fun live shot at this GREAT Horror Camp Out.

Levi is Open:
Levi Stadium is cutting the ribbon on their new home of the San Francisco 49ers and while no game will be played their by the team it was a chance for the 49er faithful to show their colors in today's edition of Show Us Yours.

Thrifty Thursday:
Gina stepped out of her lab with an all fashion edition of Thrifty Thursday from Thrift Town. She showed how you (Ladies) can put together a great summer look without breaking the bank.

Good Day Nutshell:
Daily List:
Marianne's Daily List talked about 4 things that top Bucket Lists. I can share with you I have 2 on mine. To see a hero and to see a major sporting event. I have not plans to visit the 7 continents nor join the Mile High Club.

Bucket List:
Staying with the theme of Marianne's Daily List a local woman has started a group that helps you complete items on your bucket list. Bucket lists on a day like today feel so inappropriate but it was all done before the horrible news so that is why I am talking about it.

Dude Where's My Car:
Today's 9am hour had a few things covered and one was Ken's Manly Minute which talked about tips on going on a Family Road Trip. As Ken reminded us and Doug the Car Czar did last week it's a very good idea to make sure your car is in proper working order so no issues occur during your trip and remember to share the drive or rest so no one falls asleep at the wheel.

Not Covered
As I said much of the 9am hour was dedicated to CBS coverage on the downed passenger plane so these stories scheduled did not get covered so you may look for them tomorrow if time permits.

Tomorrow:
Let's hope tomorrow is a better day and not so sad. We have reached Friday and it should be time to dance into the weekend. Amy might be heading to vacation so Cody will and should be there all weekend long. But lets hope Cody feels better as well.

One final Thought
It's not easy to be in media and one of the things I like is how Good Day Sacramento can have fun but at the time when they need to cover breaking news they are able to like true professionals like they did today with the plane going down. Once the story was turned over to CBS the 9am hour just didn't seem to matter anymore today but in true Good Day Sacramento fashion they came back to discuss 2 of the topics planned for the hour and kept it fun knowing the events of the day may need to take over once again.

I respect Good Day Sacramento and all it's cast and crew for being there so that we the people can escape and not have to be feeling down as our days continue and remember much like Good Day I try to make Today in The News as fun as possible but sometimes like in media I too have to change course if events warrant.

For more on yesterday's events and all of today stay with your favorite news and all the social media outlets for any and every update to these 2 stories and come back tomorrow to Good Day Sacramento for all the Friday fun.
