Erica Doucette and her family have set up a department 56 village display in their garage. The display is inspired by their history and life together. The Doucettes have invited us to share the story of their village and to get into the holiday spirit. There is an 8 inch window for viewing that is open to the public everyday from 6p-9p.

Mel: Recipe from Home... Baking Edition. Chocolaty Melting Snowman
Ingredients
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1/2 cup peanut butter
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 egg
• 3 tablespoons milk
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 pound vanilla-flavored candy coating, coarsely chopped
• 20 bite-size chocolate-covered peanut butter cups, unwrapped
• Brown and orange sprinkles or other candies and/or tinted frosting
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl beat shortening and peanut butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Beat in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla until combined. Beat in the cocoa powder and as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour.
2. Shape dough into twenty 1 3/4-inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are just firm. Cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.
4. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. Place cooled cookies on prepared baking sheet. In a medium microwave-safe bowl microwave candy coating on 50% power for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes or until melted and smooth, stirring every 30 seconds. Spoon melted coating over each cookie to cover cookie and resemble melted snow. While coating is still tacky, add a peanut butter cup for a top hat and decorate with sprinkles or other candies to resemble snowman faces (If using frosting to make snowman faces, add it when the candy coating is dry.) Final Thoughts:
Today on Good Day Sacramento we had yet another GREAT Dishin with Tina from Manteca. This week she featured Ernie's Food & Spirits.
Eleanor was also dishing in her own way with all the Juicy gossip.
Nina was back in her normal Sunday spot. Today she checked out a Department 56 collection. Shopping at a new Pop up beatnik shop, wine tasting from Ficklin Wilcox and playing at Wacky Tacky indoor complex.
Christianne was back from her trip to NY where she became the new Ambassador for Health corps. Today she was shopping local in Davis at Haute and Ken's Bikes-Skis-Boards then to the Salvation Army 5K Run. Following that she checked out the Winter Wonderland at Fairytale Town.
Melissa wins the live shot of the day but before we get to the best live shot Melissa brought the first of 2 Recipes from home with a local viewer melting chocolate snowmen. See complete recipe above. The other Recipe from home came to the studio with viewer Rich making his Famous Fudge. After Melissa got her sweet tooth on she went shopping at the newest Burlington Coat Factory in Natomas but wait..... What is this a Flash Mob you say? What could it be....?

Cody and Julian got facials from Beauty Spa Secrets.
Bacon Mania Food Truck made a special stop to talk all things Bacon and yes Cody was in heaven.
Local Comedian DJ Sandhu stopped by to talk about his appearance tonight at Punchline and how he knows KOVR13's Cambi Brown.
Now back to Melissa. When we last left off we said she discovered a Flash Mob at Burlington Coat Factory so Melissa the true professional stayed on scene to investigate and discovered it was a local man and family and friends surprising his girlfriend with a marriage proposal. The best part was all of the flash mob participants getting on one knee with the Groom to be.. It was so sweet. I loved it. By the way she said yes and the scene wasn't that dramatic because it was all set up but a beautiful proposal nonetheless.
Later tonight Highlights from Mark at the Movies. (Later than normal as I was invited to and accepted a ticket to the Sacramento Kings Game today.... Thank you Cody)

Today on Good Day Sacramento we had yet another GREAT Dishin with Tina from Manteca. This week she featured Ernie's Food & Spirits.

Nina was back in her normal Sunday spot. Today she checked out a Department 56 collection. Shopping at a new Pop up beatnik shop, wine tasting from Ficklin Wilcox and playing at Wacky Tacky indoor complex.
Christianne was back from her trip to NY where she became the new Ambassador for Health corps. Today she was shopping local in Davis at Haute and Ken's Bikes-Skis-Boards then to the Salvation Army 5K Run. Following that she checked out the Winter Wonderland at Fairytale Town.
Melissa wins the live shot of the day but before we get to the best live shot Melissa brought the first of 2 Recipes from home with a local viewer melting chocolate snowmen. See complete recipe above. The other Recipe from home came to the studio with viewer Rich making his Famous Fudge. After Melissa got her sweet tooth on she went shopping at the newest Burlington Coat Factory in Natomas but wait..... What is this a Flash Mob you say? What could it be....?

Cody and Julian got facials from Beauty Spa Secrets.
Bacon Mania Food Truck made a special stop to talk all things Bacon and yes Cody was in heaven.
Local Comedian DJ Sandhu stopped by to talk about his appearance tonight at Punchline and how he knows KOVR13's Cambi Brown.
Now back to Melissa. When we last left off we said she discovered a Flash Mob at Burlington Coat Factory so Melissa the true professional stayed on scene to investigate and discovered it was a local man and family and friends surprising his girlfriend with a marriage proposal. The best part was all of the flash mob participants getting on one knee with the Groom to be.. It was so sweet. I loved it. By the way she said yes and the scene wasn't that dramatic because it was all set up but a beautiful proposal nonetheless.
