Surprise For Brian.... Today in the News 7/1/2014:
Opening Statement:
As we talked about the last 2 days Good Day Sacramento News Director of 20 years Brent Baader retired over the weekend.
Many former and current Good Day Sacramento staff got together for his retirement party on Saturday afternoon.
Some of the formers staff members included Producer Brandon Mercer who is now in the Bay Area, former director Joe Carnahan who is now one of the BIGGEST Hollywood Directors to bring such movies as the A Team, The Gray and Smokin Aces.
The other person that I know attended was former Good Day Sacramento Weekend Host Chris Burrous. Chris now at KTLA was the original weekend host with Stefanie Cruz and then Taryn Winter Brill. Chris also coined the phrase Action Before Information mostly when he was talking to a young intern named Alan Sanchez.
Once Chris departed for New York Cody took over the hosting duties with Taryn followed by Kelly, Lori, Jackie, Melissa, Mark Mathis, and his current host Amy.
Both Chris and Cody have placed their own stamp on the weekend show. Chris got the show extended from 6am-10am when Taryn was host and Cody also changed the time from 6-10 to its current time 7am-11am. Chris would read viewer mail and then shred negative comments. Cody will sometimes post them online.
Cody has also started the Birthday Nod, Ask Eleanor, Show Us Yours, #GdsJustCurious Slap You With Science, and the very famous 838 Stretch to name a few.
Each of these men are very special and near and dear to my heart. I never really became friends with Chris until after he was gone and as I've stated countless times before Cody is my brother and I owe him so much for always being there for me.
I won't lie when I saw that Chris was in town I was hoping he would stop by the Good Day Sacramento studio to host the show with Cody for an hour as maybe one final pass of the weekend torch.
I wish Chris nothing but the best in life, job and health.
I wish Cody the same and hope he never leaves Good Day Sacramento.

This hour Courtney led off with Show and Tell when an alert viewer sent her books on Grass Valley after Courtney revealed she has never been and would like to go there. The 5am Club Member was introduced. Jason talked about what's ahead today. KHTK 1140 will have a viewing party for USA Soccer today at Firestone Pub. Marianne had her July Sales. Today's Question was What did you hate about Elementary School. Today's Show us Yours was Fireworks, and How you are staying cool.
6am:
In the 6am hour we got 2 demos for Fireworks. Safe and Sane and tips how to stay safe and illegal fireworks and the dangers of them going off. Quinoa chips are sweeping the newsroom today in Courtney's Check This Out. Even the field reporters like them. In fact Sean liked him he never saw the truck coming right at him. Marianne had another video of father/daughter singing Let It Go. I am almost to the point of Letting it go for good though I like the song it's now stuck in my head. Mark is in Stockton checking out Flyboarding at the Stockton Arena.
7am:
Flyboarding is taking off and it looks so much fun. Mark is yet to try it but the pictures and videos tell the story. Mark and Jason also played who has a better hat. Jackson Rancheria announced the Dream Wedding Winners who got $27,000 for their wedding. Brian Cooley was talking about the new Black Phone which is a secure smartphone.
8am:
Mark got up on the Flyboarding and looked amazing while doing it. Alan Silva painted a masterpiece on a Elk Grove couples fence and Amy was there to check it out. Worry no more parents. Your daughters dress can be fixed by the Modifier in Turlock. Teens Tunes was played The Grub Run was officially introduced for July. Wienerschnitzel, Enter Now.
9am:
In this hour Kristin continued with a fashion show from the Turlock Dress Modistfyer. Mark continued flyboarding. Courtney was at a Laguna Creek Fund Raising event for it's Cheer leading team and yes it is a sport. Julissa and Laura guided us through the hour and today's #9amtopic. Craig Ashton came in to answer viewer legal questions. Ken had his Manly Minute about what guys need to stop doing to women and my favorite story of not only the hour but the day was the team work Now 100.5, Good Day, Todd and Nina, Amy and City Bike Works put in to surprise an Elk Grove Teen with a new bike after his was stolen.
Final Thoughts:
Flyboarding:
This was going to be the main story today and it still is a main story for Today In The News but Brian's Bike takes the BEST story of the day. However Flyboarding is the coolest story of the day. Mark was in Stockton trying his hand at Flyboarding. This jetpack type water sport is coming to Stockton next year complete with a cafe and it is already hitting the Sacramento area. If you want to try it this month head to their website above and enter coupon code "Mark" and you can go for just $89. Mark has never done this and when he did finally get up on it he did a GREAT job. It just made the sport look more fun.
Dress Modifier:
Parents Your Daughters dress issues are over. Kristin was with a local Turlock Woman today on Good Day who is known as the Dress Modistfyer. She can do everything with dresses so they won't slip, bunch up and more. Chelsea Freming is amazing.
Dream Wedding:
The Jackson Rancheria Dream Wedding contest came down to 3 and today on Good Day the Winner was announced. Congratulations to Julian and Dustin. They won the Dream Wedding worth $27,000 from Jackson Rancheria Casino.
Grub Run:
Tina's back today and it's the beginning of the NEW Grub Run Month. Wienerschnitzel is this months lunch provider for you and your office up to 25 people. Hurry the contest fills up quick. So get your name in.

We all love chips and we all love to eat healthy so today on Good Day Courtney's Check This Out was Quinoa Chips. The staff loved them enough Sean never saw the truck coming that almost hit him.
Fireworks:
Today on Good Day Amy was at a Firework demonstration put on for the media by Sac Metro Fire. It is important to remember that this year is EXTREMELY dangerous with the draught we are in. Fireworks will be sold and are being sold regardless if you or I love or hate them. It is a huge Fundraiser for Non Profits and I don't see it going away anytime soon. So as adults we need to take precautions.
If you fire off illegal fireworks remember what goes up must come down. Those may come down on your roof, neighbors roof or in dry brush. They are illegal for a reason. DON'T DO IT!!!
Surprise:
Last week a story on CBS 13 was about a 13 year boy who saved over $400 for a new bike his mom said he could get if he got his grades up. He did and he took it to a local McDonald's only to have it stolen. Today with help from Todd and Nina, Now 100.5, Amy, Good Day and City Bike Works he received a new bike with a lock. This story had me in tears watching it play out. GREAT job by all involved. This was my favorite story of the day.

This hour Courtney led off with Show and Tell when an alert viewer sent her books on Grass Valley after Courtney revealed she has never been and would like to go there. The 5am Club Member was introduced. Jason talked about what's ahead today. KHTK 1140 will have a viewing party for USA Soccer today at Firestone Pub. Marianne had her July Sales. Today's Question was What did you hate about Elementary School. Today's Show us Yours was Fireworks, and How you are staying cool.
6am:
In the 6am hour we got 2 demos for Fireworks. Safe and Sane and tips how to stay safe and illegal fireworks and the dangers of them going off. Quinoa chips are sweeping the newsroom today in Courtney's Check This Out. Even the field reporters like them. In fact Sean liked him he never saw the truck coming right at him. Marianne had another video of father/daughter singing Let It Go. I am almost to the point of Letting it go for good though I like the song it's now stuck in my head. Mark is in Stockton checking out Flyboarding at the Stockton Arena.
7am:
Flyboarding is taking off and it looks so much fun. Mark is yet to try it but the pictures and videos tell the story. Mark and Jason also played who has a better hat. Jackson Rancheria announced the Dream Wedding Winners who got $27,000 for their wedding. Brian Cooley was talking about the new Black Phone which is a secure smartphone.
8am:
Mark got up on the Flyboarding and looked amazing while doing it. Alan Silva painted a masterpiece on a Elk Grove couples fence and Amy was there to check it out. Worry no more parents. Your daughters dress can be fixed by the Modifier in Turlock. Teens Tunes was played The Grub Run was officially introduced for July. Wienerschnitzel, Enter Now.
9am:
In this hour Kristin continued with a fashion show from the Turlock Dress Modistfyer. Mark continued flyboarding. Courtney was at a Laguna Creek Fund Raising event for it's Cheer leading team and yes it is a sport. Julissa and Laura guided us through the hour and today's #9amtopic. Craig Ashton came in to answer viewer legal questions. Ken had his Manly Minute about what guys need to stop doing to women and my favorite story of not only the hour but the day was the team work Now 100.5, Good Day, Todd and Nina, Amy and City Bike Works put in to surprise an Elk Grove Teen with a new bike after his was stolen.

Flyboarding:
This was going to be the main story today and it still is a main story for Today In The News but Brian's Bike takes the BEST story of the day. However Flyboarding is the coolest story of the day. Mark was in Stockton trying his hand at Flyboarding. This jetpack type water sport is coming to Stockton next year complete with a cafe and it is already hitting the Sacramento area. Mark has never done this and when he did finally get up on it he did a GREAT job. It just made the sport look more fun.
Dress Modifier:
Parents Your Daughters dress issues are over. Kristin was with a local Turlock Woman today on Good Day who is known as the Dress Modistfyer. She can do everything with dresses so they won't slip, bunch up and more. Chelsea Freming is amazing.
Dream Wedding:
The Jackson Rancheria Dream Wedding contest came down to 3 and today on Good Day the Winner was announced. Congratulations to Julian and Dustin. They won the Dream Wedding worth $27,000 from Jackson Rancheria Casino.
Grub Run:
Tina's back today and it's the beginning of the NEW Grub Run Month. Wienerschnitzel is this months lunch provider for you and your office up to 25 people. Hurry the contest fills up quick. So get your name in.
Check This Out:
We all love chips and we all love to eat healthy so today on Good Day Courtney's Check This Out was Quinoa Chips. The staff loved them enough Sean never saw the truck coming that almost hit him.
Fireworks:
Today on Good Day Amy was at a Firework demonstration put on for the media by Sac Metro Fire. It is important to remember that this year is EXTREMELY dangerous with the draught we are in. Fireworks will be sold and are being sold regardless if you or I love or hate them. It is a huge Fundraiser for Non Profits and I don't see it going away anytime soon. So as adults we need to take precautions.
If you fire off illegal fireworks remember what goes up must come down. Those may come down on your roof, neighbors roof or in dry brush. They are illegal for a reason. DON'T DO IT!!!
Surprise:
Last week a story on CBS 13 was about a 13 year boy who saved over $400 for a new bike his mom said he could get if he got his grades up. He did and he took it to a local McDonald's only to have it stolen. Today with help from Todd and Nina, Now 100.5, Amy, Good Day and City Bike Works he received a new bike with a lock. This story had me in tears watching it play out. GREAT job by all involved. This was my favorite story of the day.
