The Journey.... Today in the News 8/5/2014:



Opening Statement:
Before getting into today's opening I have late BREAKING NEWS on Sabrina Rodriguez. In a statement she has stated due to her legal issue she has resigned from Fox40. Rodriguez tweeted: "I am sad to say I've decided to resign from FOX40 to concentrate on my case and re-establish my good name. Thank you for all the support."



I will add that I hope these charges are false but can't help but to believe they are true based off the evidence being reported. I as a person have always liked Sabrina and she along with Zohreen, and Bethany always filled the void left by the departure of Annalee. I have grown to respect all of these Fox40 reporters that I mentioned as well as Stefanie Cruz who I have known and respected for years and I wish all of them as well as Fox40 and Sabrina Good Luck. But I will reiterate my loyalty lies with Good Day Sacramento and CBS 13 for all they have done and do for me.



Now today's Official Opening Statement:



Please forgive me on today's Opening Topic. 



As you know or may not know I suffer from a brain/eye tumor. No it's not cancer but it's a tumor that is slowly taking my vision away. However that is nothing compared to what others go through.



We all know someone who has suffered or is suffering from this horrible disease called cancer. As of 2009, there are approximately 1,479,350 new cases of cancer. In males, prostate cancer tops the list, and breast cancer for females. The approximate number of deaths in 2009 due to cancer was 562,340.



As I said I don't have cancer but I have the tumor but I do know people who have lost their battle, beat their battle and are still battling. 



On a personal level I lost my Step Dad in 1988 to throat cancer after a 6 year battle he just couldn't fight anymore and let god take him home. 



My sister appears to have beat breast cancer much like Tina Machua and Shawn L Brown (both my sisters in friendship). But with any cancer it might go away and come back. So far with these 3 ladies it has not and lets hope it stays that way.   



However, you don't have to be a football fan or a Buffalo Bills fan to know that Jim Kelly who is a Father, Husband, Hall of Fame Quarterback for the Buffalo Bills is currently fighting jaw and nasal cancer. Not only as a Buffalo Bills fan but a person who understands what cancer patients go through on daily basis I am heartbroken that Jim may not have much longer to live.  



We need to stop this horrible disease and make sure no one ever has to suffer again. I have included some video of stories about Jim plus away for everyone to help raise funds to support Jim and give to his sons Hunters charity who was lost at the age of 8 years old with another horrible disease. 



Not everyone with cancer has the voice to spread awareness as Tina, Shawn, and Jim do but the ones who do can impact everyone. I encourage you to watch the videos and if you know anyone that has cancer to call them or somehow reach out to them and tell them you love them. Jim and his family have a special # and to be ALL cancer patients that have battled or are battling are #KellyTough

Favorite Story of the Day: The Journey:
Today on Good Day Sacramento Mark talked about the new movie coming out The 100 Foot Journey starring Helen Mirren. The journey puts 2 competing restaurants face to face and eventually together. 



So I started thinking about my opening today as well as life as a journey and how it can all work in mysterious ways. 



When we are born no one knows where our journey will take us but our Loved ones are there to guide us as best as they can but as we grow older it is up to us to decide the road we take to continue our journey. It may be a 100 foot journey or 1000 mile journey but no journey is totally complete without making mistakes of a wrong turn or illness we just have to see where the road takes us. We need to make good use of education which I am guilty of not doing until later in life. When one door may close take a few more steps because the opportunity good be greater. 



If I never took time to get to know Good Day Sacramento I may not be able to continue my journey. Good Day Sacramento takes us on a new journey each and everyday and it's because of them as well as Cody, Mark, Tina, Don, Tessa and all the rest along with my BFF Christy and the crew of Mark at The Movies and my family as well that keeps me going on the journey. 



Today's favorite story of the day may not have anything to do with one particular story today but that is part of the Journey.



Famous Creations:
Pake? What is Pake? Pake is a pie inside a cake. Sounds good, Not sure how it would taste but Amy didn't stop at Pake she also showed the Naked Cake and Chalkboard Cake. I admit the Chalkboard cake was pretty awesome.



Breakfast at your Place:
One of my favorite segments on Good Day is Breakfast at your place. One of my favorite chefs for this segment is Evan from Evan's Kitchen. Today Mark traveled to Yuba City to meet the Morgan Family and the neighbors from across the street who took the 100 Foot Journey, a new movie starring Helen Mirren. This movie takes place in a restaurant known for it's omelet so of course Chef Even made omelets. 



CNet - Smartphone Travel:
It's Tuesday so today Sharon from CNet made her weekly appearance talking about the smarts of having a Smartphone when you travel abroad. Not only did she say they are GREAT for Google Maps but did you know that when you get to your destination you can get a temporary SIM Card and not have to pay outrageous prices on your phone for using it.



Student Icon - Raye:
When Fashion Designer Uniquka Christian won the Good Day Challenge no one saw the doors that would open up for her but she continues to give back to young girls in Fairfield with Student I.C.O.N. Today we met 15 year old Raye who showed off her design and style. Amazing



Spike:
Cambi was in Sacramento checking out a Co-ed Volleyball league with the league starting in September. This league not only teaches Volleyball but how all kids male and female can get along and work together. 



Redwood Kings:
You may have seen their stuff in and around town but never knew it was theirs until today. Ron and John Daniels from Daniels Woodland joined to talk about their new show on Animal Planet. These very unique redwood pieces are sure to amaze you. 



Grub Run:
Tina officially announced Dickey's BBQ as the August Grub Run provider. Make sure you enter you and 24 coworkers for some GREAT food from Dickey's BBQ



Floral Designs and Wedding Fashion Too:
Courtney met two outstanding women today. Dina Manzo is an Expert in Floral Design where she can design anything with flowers and has worked with many stars. Then she met a Bridal Fashion Expert Elizabeth Galindo who is now sharing her stories in her new book. 



Sing for the Golden State:
Singing the Golden State is an exhibit of music throughout California. This exhibit is in Lodi now through August 10th at Micke Grove.



Going For A Swim:
Today Amy introduced us to Lonorore  Modell who at the time was the youngest to swim the English Channel. She is heading back for the 50th Anniversary but first she shared her story with all of us.

Today on the Daily List Hack week continued for cars. Did you know you can De-ice your car with sanitizer. Use a scented candle to use for air freshener or cover scratches with nail polish. For the complete list see the links above. 



Weird:
In today's News of the Weird with Mark we saw a Dancing cop and a farmer who plays a trumpet to bring his cattle home. What's so weird about that? It's Lorde's Royale song.

With Ken on Vacation today's Substitute Teacher if you will was Jason Maloney. Jason did a fine job talking about today's Manly Minute on Good Day. Today's Topic 5 foods that help you look younger like Sweet Potatoes, Tomatoes and to wash it all down Red Wine and Beer.
