Just A Bit Outside.... Today in the News 10/10/2014:



Favorite Story / Story of the Day: STRIKE 3!!!
Baseball Playoffs are well underway with the Giants getting ready to face the Cardinals and the Royals getting ready to face the Orioles. However College is complete and it's time to start training a new crop of umpires to call the games. 



Today on Good Day Cody put on the mask and got behind the catcher to learn all their is to being a GREAT umpire...



Our Story begins early Morning (8am) when Cody headed to Sac State for the Black and Blue Umpire Camp. While waiting for others to arrive he noted they looked like Penguins on the way in. Cody then had to learn how to properly put on the hat and mask and then fall in line with the rest as they learned the Safe call. 



In the 9am hour Cody went behind the plate to learn how to call balls and strikes as well as where to stand behind the catcher for proper vision of the ball. He was quick to point out that Umps have a very tough job watching and not moving at a pitch that comes 90+ MPH right at you that umpires have a difficult job. Cody did a nice job and though he's not ready for College umpiring T Ball might be a good start. ( I'm Kidding)

Kings Turn 30. 
Ken talked with Bobby Jackson and Erica from ticket sales about this season the Sacramento Kings turn 30 and this season they will honor 6 of their former players in a Special Ticket Pack. Jason Williams, Peja, Mitch Richmond, Doug Christie, Bobby Jackson.

Haunted House:
A Haunted House in Herald is opening their home to the public so they can hold a special benefit to help Sacramento Children's Receiving Home. The event takes place tomorrow (Saturday)



K9 Cancer Walk:
Courtney was with a group from Morris Animal Foundation, This Sunday a Dog Cancer Walk is taking place in Elk Grove, and Ken will be the Emcee. They also gave tips to keep your pet safe as the seasons change and new danger grow in yards and fields.

Cody was at Sac State at a Umpire Camp. These Umps are wanting to be College Baseball Umpires. Cody want through all the drills. 



Special Martial Arts:
A New Martial Arts Gym in El Dorado Hills is teaching kids with special needs the art of and life skills. The big thing about this gym is they have no mirrors so kids don't get distracted. 



Sax on the River:
2 Sax performers Lebron and Elan came in the Good Day Studio to perform on the Good Day Stage and talk about the event Sax on the River taking place tomorrow in Sacramento Lebron even made a Pink Sax and Decorated it to be auctioned off at the end and will be signed by all the performers. The Money raised will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness. 



Beyond Geek:
Julissa was with Producers Dan Reynoso and Joe Gillis of Beyond Geek airing on PBS Saturday. Dan and Joe talked about the show and some of the show was filmed in Sacramento Dan is one of the 3 hosts of the show as well.
