Smells Like Team Spirit... Today in the News 9/5/2014:
Opening Statement:
Remembering #JoanRivers :
Yesterday we lost yet another comic genius. First we lost Robin Williams about a month ago and now Joan Rivers passed at the age of 81 after complications to a recent procedure.
Joan was a very funny comic when she was in her prime and had everyone laughing countless times on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson. However she made not have gotten that chance had it not been for Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby Was Responsible for Her Big Break: At first, Rivers became famous for being a guest host on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show." "The night before I went on Carson, a comic bombed and Bill Cosby -- who was white hot at that moment -- he had seen me in the Village and he said to them, 'You might as well use Joan. She can’t be any worse than the guy you had on last night!'" she told Entertainment Weekly. "I was brought on in the last 10 minutes of the show -- the worst slot. And God bless Johnny Carson, he said right there on the air, 'You're going to be a big star.'" He was right.
Joan Rivers was not Joan Rivers at first. In fact Joan Rivers is a stage name. Joan Rivers Was Not Her Given Name: The comedian was born Joan Molinsky, but at the behest of her agent, Tony Rivers, she adopted a stage name. On a whim, she chose "Joan Rivers," just because it felt right. "Having a stage name made it easier to perform in those raunchy nightclubs," she told the Evening News newspaper in 1986. "Joan Rivers was like a party dress I put on, so in those early days, she was only the tiniest part of me and Joan Molinsky was still frightened and confused and bewildered in her life."
Did you know Joan is the one who coined the phrase on the Red Carpet "Who Are You Wearing?" Nary a female celebrity walks the red carpet these days without hearing that one seemingly simple question: "Who are you wearing?" But it wasn't always like that. Joan Rivers, usually working in tandem with beloved daughter Melissa Rivers, changed the landscape of the award show interview forever when she started inquiring of each shining star who walked the carpet which designer had made her gown, be it fabulous or fugly. (The designation of which category the star's dress fell under would, of course, come later)
Here is one of the last appearances of Joan Rivers just 5 months ago when she appeared on the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. I will have a larger statement on the passing of Joan Rivers in tomorrow's Opening Statement.

To Joan May you Rest in Peace and forever be without pain. To the family friends and of course Melissa. I am so sorry for your loss.

RECIPE
Real-deal chocolate-chip cookies
prep time: 12 minutes cooking time: 10 minutes yield: 1 dozen
These cookies have earned the reputation as the mother of all Paleo chocolate chip cookies and the closest you can get to the ones you grew up on. Try them at your own risk: you will probably become addicted after the first bite!
Ingredients
¼ cup palm shortening
1 egg at room temperature
¼ cup coconut crystals
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1½ cups blanched almond flour
2 tablespoons coconut flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon sea salt
¼ cup dark-chocolate pieces
¼ cup dairy-free chocolate chips
Method
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Place the shortening and egg in a food processor and process for 15 seconds.
Add the coconut crystals, honey, and vanilla extract. Process again until combined.
Add the flours, baking soda, and salt and process for 30 seconds.
Scrape down the sides and pulse again if necessary to fully incorporate the dry ingredients.
Stir the chocolate in by hand.
Use a large tablespoon to scoop balls of the dough, placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Lightly press them down to flatten, making disks about ½-inch thick.
Bake for 10 minutes, until the cookies are browned around the edges. Cool on a wire rack.

Ken's Manly Minute: Top 5 Greatest NFL QB’s
Second only to the U.S. President, the NFL quarterback is the most glamorous, if not important, job in the country. In addition to the hopes and dreams of his team, the quarterback carries the flag for entire cities, regions, and metaphorically, ways of life. The pressure is unreal, considering the fact that sports-obsessed Americans look to the gridiron gladiator for strength, controlled violence, and an escape from the routine fare of the daily grind. The quarterback is viewed as the one member of the entourage that combines leadership, intelligence, and strategic thought alongside brute force to control games and emerge victorious. Brett Favre. Tom Brady. Dan Marino. John Elway. Joe Montana.

Final Recap:
Favorite Story of the Day: Ice Bucket Challenge:
Today a Roseville School had some fun with their Principle and 2 Vice Principles when they took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Not only did they take the challenge but so did Good Day's own Melissa. Prior to taking the challenge she sent her challenge out to husband Sean Bennett.
It is this challenge and the fact that Melissa took it that makes this my favorite story of the day.
Futsal:
This type of Soccer is played indoors on a basketball court. The ball is more dense so it doesn't bounce said the team organizer, James.
Toronto Film Fest:
Mark was in Toronto for the Film Fest and before he talked to Adam Sandler and Denzel Washington he remembered Joan Rivers.
Doissant Holes:
Melissa was checking out a new spot called Sweet Dozen. They took a donut with a croissant and made it a doissant then took it a step or 2 further by making doissant holes and also stuffing them with Ice Cream.
Check This Out - School Spirit:
Do you have school Spirit? Today's Check This Out with Courtney Dempsey did. Today she showed 3 products for kids that will represent your School from a rain poncho like the pink one Cody is wearing, Shoes for your daughter and a cool mega chair High Chair. These products have most if not all colleges represented.
So show your School Spirit by picking up these cool items in today's Check This Out.
Dinosaur Exhibit:
Today Lori was at a new exhibit on the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds for all the Dinosaur lovers. T-Rex is not open and she was checking out this great learning tool.
Renaissance Fair:
Kristin went back in time to 1490 to check out the Renaissance Fair in Cameron Park today.
Day of Caring:
Do you want to help? Sign ups for National Day of Caring are taking place now through the United Way.
AirShow Preview:
OMG! Today Cody was at the California Capital Airshow where he checked out a stunt plane along with a jet car. Then he went to the Aerojet exhibit to learn all about what they are doing with rockets and space. Cody was also pictured with the Harrier.
Blow Dry Bar:
Look I'm New! Courtney was in Folsom checking out the new Blow Dry Bar, Cherry's Blow Dry Bar.
Against All Grains:
Author/Blogger Danielle Walker was in studio sharing her Sugar Free Chocolate Chip Cookies. She has a book signing tonight at Barnes and Noble Arden Fair at 7pm.
Good Day Nutshell:
Remember The Name:
Marianne's Daily List today was tips on how to remember a persons name.
Daily Joe:
Today's Daily Joe showed a couple of dogs trying to get a tire out of a pool and how they worked to together as a team. Plus a Dumbo Rat likes to read, shop, and eat.
BEST QB's:
Today's Manly Minute talked about top 5 QB's in the NFL. Sorry I can't get behind Dan Marino. He alone is the reason I HATE Miami not just the team but the city. Tom Brady wears Uggs. Oh and they both beat my Bills way too many times. :) Brett Favre, John Elway and Joe Montana also made the list. Apparently Bart Starr and Johnny U aren't good enough. WHAT?
Tomorrow:
Now that we have danced into the weekend with New Edition and Cool It Now we can get ready for Cody and the Weekend crew. Amy might me out of town so if she is you can see Melissa Saturday and Lori Sunday with Cody but regardless of who is with Cody the fun begins at 7am so tune in.
