Cambi was getting a preview of the Cosumnes The Mother/Son Wacky Golf tournament at Emerald Lake Golf Course that allows you to leave your golf clubs at home because they provide the equipment. Including tennis racquets, baseballs, soccer balls, frisbees and other sports equipment. Cambi was getting a preview of Unity in the Community. From 10-2pm today at Fruitridge Community Park the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is bringing unity into the community with a FREE BBQ lunch and activities event. Cambi was checking out the Farm to Fork Brunch.

Recipe:
Cherry season is upon us. This easy, sumptuous recipe adapted from L’Atelier Vert, a French gardening website, is delicious on roasted pork or duck, fried ham, grilled venison, panna cotta, cheesecake, fromage blanc, fresh ricotta, blue cheese, flourless chocolate cake, chocolate gelato or vanilla bean ice cream. The wine preserves the cherries, allowing you to store it refrigerated for up to a month. If you love gardening, French pottery, and cooking, do visit L’Atelier Vert website

Makes about 2 quarts
Ingredients:
2 1/2 lbs. ripe cherries, washed, stemmed and pitted
1 1/2 cups Barbera, Syrah, or fruity red
1 c. sugar
6-inch strip of orange rind, pith removed
½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 sprig fresh thyme
1 bay leaf
Directions:
In a large stainless steel pot, bring the wine and sugar to a boil. Add the orange zest, pepper and herbs to the wine. Simmer 10 minutes. Add the cherries. Slowly bring to a simmer and cook, covered over very low heat for 15-20 minutes or until the cherries are soft. Remove the cherries with a slotted spoon, placing them in a shallow baking dish to cool. Reduce the wine syrup by half on medium low heat. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Remove the orange zest and set aside. Discard the herbs. Julienne the orange zest and add to cherries. Spoon cooled cherries and wine sauce in airtight jars. Refrigerate up to one month.
