Ken's Manly Minute:
Much of the 1980s was defined by the shifting trajectory of the Cold War, with its initial escalation reflected everywhere in popular culture (think Ivan Drago as the Soviet juggernaut in 1985′s Rocky IV, or Red Dawn’s “What If?” story of Communist aggression). The end of the decade saw the decline and dissolution of the Soviet Union, and the conclusion of the 40-year conflict that had informed the American consciousness for a generation. While it lasted, though, the U.S./Communism battle spilled over into other battlegrounds — Nicaragua, Afghanistan — and it would continue to affect American foreign policy for decades. Its ripple effect is evident in practically everything that came out of the ’80s, from video game about fighting Communists to songs about fighting Communists. This list is ranked by the impact these men had on their fields, their genres and especially the degree to which their international presence influenced culture at large. Most were visible stars in their day, but some exercised a more subtle influence only recognized among their peers at the time (though certainly felt today in retrospect). Magic Johnson. Ronald Reagan. Hiroshi Yamauchi. (Invented Nintendo) Bill Gates. Michael Jackson.

Quick Thought:
Footloose, Farmer Coffee, Toilet for cash and Flashback to the 1980's
All of this and more in Today in the News....
Recap:
Good Day Sacramento:
430/5am:
The 80's show is well underway but before we got into our Delorean to go back to the future Ken shared he planted a garden over the weekend for his Show and Tell. Now that we went Back in time to the 80's Marianne talked about fashion making a comeback including the mom jeans in shorts. Then Marianne was handed the Mom jeans Ashley Williams bought at a garage sale on a weekend show, wore, and have been passed around. The 5am Club member was introduced and Mark went to Woodcreek High School to preview Footloose the Musical. The movie is celebrating 30 years this year. It wouldn't be the 80's if it wasn't for the Show us your topic of the day which is 80's pictures. So grab that Aquanet and put up your hair as the rest of the show continues in the 80's
Song of the hour Flock of Seagulls I Ran https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIpfWORQWhU
6am:
The 80's show continued with a performance from Woodcreek HS doing Footloose. Amy was with Joni Hilton aka YouTube Mom with Fact or Fake Cold/Flu remedies. Today Business woman assemble at Sleep Train Arena for a mentoring event to help woman. The 80's made Hulk Hogan Famous and today he joined Ken and Marianne to talk about Wrestlemania 30 that took place over the weekend. 31 will be in Santa Clara, CA
Song of the hour Def Leppard Rock of Ages https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1V8GtZjWFQ
7am:
In this hour of 80's remembered Mark talked about Footloose again at Woodcreek HS and tickets are only $10 and the play ends this Saturday. Cambi was getting Mentoring tips from Bizwoman happening today at Sleep Train Arena. Marianne and Ken talked to Cohen from Home Depot as they prepare for Spring Black Friday deals including a combo Grill that uses gas and/or charcoal. Julissa talked with Matt from Insight Coffee with the barista challenge and Amy and crew played another round of Fact or Faked with Youtube mom Joni Hilton.
Song of the hour Devo Whip It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVNLhhNNZx4
8am:
In this GREAT hour it was more 80's with Court's Tunes but also Cambi was at Pachamama Coffee bar which s the only coffee bar in the US that is owned by coffee farmers, Amy was at Furniture USA checking out comfortable chairs and talking about liking them on Facebook and for every like $1 will be raised for Change for Change. Home Depot was back with more Spring Black Friday Deals. Cody filed a report from New Glory Craft Brewery. This was a make up from last week when BREAKING News postponed it. The #9amtopic was introduced and it has nothing to do with the 80's "If you could take a Selfie with anyone who would it be?
Song of the Hour Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDK9QqIzhwk
9am:
It's the final hour of 80's day on Good Day and our guides this hour were Laura, Mark and Julissa. Courtney was checking out the new store Richard Hallmarq opened in midtown. Richard was made famous when he appeared on Project Runway. Cambi continued from Pachamama Coffee where she learned to make a latte. Mark, Julissa and Laura talked to team H.O.T.T.T from Lodi for Relay for Life who are using a toilet to raise money to flush out cancer. If it appears on your lawn leave a donation and they will come and pick it up. Mark had a ACM Award recap and talked about Madagascar as well as Captain America. Ken's Manly Minute was 5 men who shaped the 80's to what we all know today including Michael Jackson who forever changed music.
Song of the Hour Michael Jackson Man in the Mirror https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8ajkPp75PQ
Final Thoughts:
It's almost time to get back into our time machine and turn it to the present day of April 7, 2014 but let's take one last look back at today's Good Day Sacramento 80's show.
We had some fun today reliving the memories to one of the best decades I've been a part of. Thank you to Laura Skirde for coming up with the idea and Good Day Sacramento going with it.
Mark was in Roseville for most of the show covering the Woodcreek HS Footloose Play taking place this week and these kids did a really good job with it. Mark was also in studio for entertainment reporting in the 9am hour.
Cambi got to check out woman in business for the bizwoman conference taking place today at Sleep Train before heading out to learn about farmers and coffee.
Amy hung out with the YouTube mom Joni Hilton getting Facts and Fakes how to treat cold/flu symptoms. Then she went to check out massage chairs and remind everyone to like Furniture USA on Facebook and for every like they will donate $1 to Change for Change to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children.
Courtney left the studio for a quick live shot to talk about Project Runways Ricard Hallmarq opening a store front midtown Sacramento. But she did have 80's fun with Courts tunes. Today Ken won 6-3 over Laura.
A cool idea from a group in Lodi with them asking for donations for Relay For Life by Flushing out Cancer and using a toilet for their donation plate.
Hulk Hogan iconic wrestler joined to talk about his time in the ring as well as Wrestle-mania 30 that took place Sunday.
Ken's Manly Minute talked about 5 men who influenced the 80's. it wasn't too bad of a list.
One thing we haven't talked about in this era was television. So many shows aired during the 80's that include 227 starring Jackie, The Cosby Show with Bill Cosby, Golden Girls with Betty White, Cheers with Ted Danson, Hills Street Blues, Night Court and of course Miami Vice aka Crockett and Tubbs and that was just on NBC.
The Delorean has gotten us back to today as we look the 80's Back in Time I leave you with the very first video ever played on MTV and the first one I ever saw.
